The Rotterman Diet
Rottermans have an extremely active lifestyle and they typically live around 10 years. But they can thrive for a bit longer if they are well taken care of. A Rotterman can grow between 23 and 28 inches in height and weigh between 65 and 130 pounds. This means that their food has to be prepared for a big dog with high levels of energy. And just like all dogs, they eat twice a day.
The amount of dry food each dog needs depends on the food and you should find the exact quantities on the bag of dry food. But as an idea, a dog that weighs between 51 and 75 pounds needs 2-2/3 to 3-1/3 cups of dry food. If it weighs 76 to 100 pounds, then it will need 3-1/3 to 4-1/4 cups.
If your dog is 100 pounds, you’ll need to feed it 4-1/4 cups, and then add 1/4cup for each 10lbs of body weight over 100lbs.
Can Rottermans eat chicken? Raw or Cooked?
Chicken has been found in commercial foods made for carnivorous animals for a very long time. It’s high in nutrients and most animals really love it. Raw diets are more and more popular but due to the high risk of salmonella and bacterial infections, they’re only recommended to more experienced people. But generally, chicken doesn’t lose too many of its nutrients during the cooking process, which is why it’s still great for dogs.
But when it comes to bones, there’s a big difference between the raw and cooked ones. The cooked bones splinter very easily and can hurt a dog’s intestines. But the raw bones don’t cause any harm and are excellent as treats from time to time. They also help to keep a dog’s teeth clean.
How about Peanut Butter?
Peanut butter is a delicious treat for dogs but you need to pay attention to the type you’re buying. If you’re using peanut butter that’s marketed towards diabetic people, avoid it at all costs. This is because it contains an artificial sweetener called Xylitol instead of actual sugar. Xylitol is very toxic to dogs and pretty much any pet.
More than that, the dogs react differently to it, which means some can get stomach pain while others might require a vet as soon as possible. But if it’s safe peanut butter, then your dog can definitely enjoy a teaspoon from time to time.
Can Rottermans eat eggs?
Eggs are safe for dogs and you can cook them in any way you want. Just make sure you’re not adding anything to them as spices and herbs can hurt the dog. Eggs also contain vitamin A and linoleic. As long as you’re not feeding your dog too many eggs and they are safe, your pet won’t have a problem with them as treats.
Is Turkey Meat OK for Rottermans?
Turkey meat is perfectly safe for dogs, similar to chicken. You can give it to your dog raw or cooked. But remember that the same rules apply to the bones, cooked can splinter and hurt the dog, while the raw ones are perfect. Whatever you do, you should never give your pet your thanksgiving leftovers. This is because of all the garlic, onion, spices, herbs, etc, you added to the meat.
Can Rottermans eat cheese?
Cheese is another great treat for Rottermans. Just offer small pieces during training or when you have some extra. But make sure it’s not blue cheese and the one you have has no added ingredients to it, such as onion, herbs, garlic, etc. Otherwise, avoid the cheese as the added ingredients can be harmful to your pet.
Can Rotterman Dogs Eat Apples?
Apples are great snacks for pretty much anyone. They’re delicious, easy to eat, and are not difficult to digest. Slices of apple work great as rewards during training. All you need to do is avoid the seeds as they contain a very small of cyanide and it’s best if not consumed. And the best thing about apples is that they clean your dog’s teeth and keep their breath fresh.
How about Oranges?
Oranges are not exactly toxic but they are very high in acid content and can cause stomach pain if eaten in excess. You can give your pet a small piece very occasionally but no more than that. And each time you should peel the orange and remove the seeds.
Can Rottermans Eat Bananas?
Bananas are almost never a bad idea. They’re very delicious and work amazingly as motivational rewards during training. But since they can also cause constipation, make sure you’re not giving your dog too much. A few small pieces once or twice a week is more than enough.
Can Rottermans eat grapes?
Grapes are very bad for dogs. And even worse is that we don’t even have enough information to know exactly what the toxic substance is doing to them. Some might not be bothered by a few grapes while others might die within a short amount of time. It depends on the dog and it’s best to avoid grapes and raisins at all costs.
Can you give them blueberries?
Blueberries are exactly the opposite of grapes and are actually very healthy and recommended for dogs. They are very low in calories and high in antioxidants, fiber, Vitamins K and C, etc. These are useful for improving the immune system. You can use them as treats, training rewards, or just add them to most of their meals in small quantities.
